Milk with Cinnamon Cookies

My inspiration: Juna's delicious, amazing cooking cookies ability! She has recently posted her recipe for brown cinnamon cookies, and in response, I've made this outfit. My dress, belted at the waist, ends just above the knee with sparkly brown delight. I wanted to wear an outfit that flaunted stylish cookie trends--sparkling brown. However, this background wasn't the best choice--my cookie skirt is melting into the color of the asphalt. Because the dress is longer than most, it suits for a sophisticated, professional look. Just throw your hair in a clean bun. Since my scarf had a lot going on, I added simple earrings.
The scarf also adds its own brown sugar sparkle, especially at the twisted, knotted ends. Cookies, baked with love, will make anyone feel better no matter what. Ooey, gooey or crunchy, munchy, I'm a cookie monster! Recently I've been very concious about my weight, cautious of what I eat--even cookies.
Then I had an epiphany. I like the way I am. I can still eat what I want, when I want and still be healthy. Anyone can. People just need to make the time and effort to work out, and they will live much longer, healthier, and happier lives. Healthiness is what matters most--not the thinnest waist size or boniest frame. My goal is to maintain a healthy body and a healthy frame of mind.

AVIATOR

She wanted to fly because she wanted to be free.

This is my aviator-inspired outfit. Planes fly over Seattle all the time, and with the new Amelia Earhart movie coming soon, starring Hilary Swank and Richard Gere, I wanted to celebrate a little aviator style. I recently discovered that Amelia started her own hand-sewn clothing line, which eventually failed. Despite the failure then, I believe aviator style flies now. Luckily enough, planes flew by in the background during this photoshoot. I have a ruffled Charlotte Russe blouse and green carpris with long brown socks tucked in some peep toe sandals. I feel as if the jacket, which is surprisingly waterproof, gives the old, aviator feel I was searching.

Art Major

Cynthia Steefe's fabulous Ready To Wear runway collection inspired my slouchy, modest school girl outfit. Her third look on the runway resembled a modestly warm and innocently open style, presented with a brown long-sleeve, long socks, and peep toe heels rather than a grey long-sleeve, grey tights, and laced booties like the ones for which I've opted. Normally, I would have kept my red belt as the one piece of popping color and main focal point against my nuetral bodied background, but I couldn't resist completing a school girl outfit with red ribbons as inspired by Junietunie's new blog featuring artwork by Frida Kahlo. Rocking a unibrow, Frida Kahlo painted a self-portrait with her hair in a bun and braid wrapped in red ribbons that continued around her neck (which also had a little monkey sitting next to it). To see the way I modernized this work of art, visit Junietunie's blog post at http://junietunie.blogspot.com/2010/02/frida-kahlo.html now! My character today is the shy, intimate personality shining through, opening to this very new world of majors, of international students, of changing weather, of ever-changing people. Don't second-guess your creative nature and unique personality; realize that shy and outgoing can mix into one. Take a look at yourself, and take a moment to understand why you are here. Education should be your somewhat first priority, but love, laughter, and happiness should never move to second-best, stash in the back of your mind, or hide behind facades of dark myths and untruths. Instead, keep them first, in the forefront of your mind, and alive as a guide through a brightening life.

Prarie Child

Welcome to the barnyard, folks.
This outfit is a result of thrifting. The object of the game is to shop at thrift stores, especially on President's Day when the entire store is half off, and find great steals. Another person's gently-used hand-me-downs are your fashionable treasures. Here's the economic fashion breakdown: Wet Seal: floral pajama dress-1 penny. Value Village: Jeans shirt-$1.50, belt-$1, clogs-$2. Icing: heart necklace-$1. The most expensive thing I'm wearing has to be the sunglasses-$5.80 from Charlotte Russe. No one should ever be afraid or shame to say they're natural-born bargain shoppers. In fact, we should all be proud. Anyone can buy a pretty dress for a million bucks and say it's fashion. Bargain shoppers have a little more skill involved.

I really wanted a prarie, almost cow-girl look inspired by my "new" jeans shirt and clogs and the want for spring; however, my sunglasses automatically transports this homey look to the city streets. What can I say, Seattle was sunny! Today, I wanted to say that, like my own, personal life journey from the countryside of Hawaii to the bustling city of Seattle, city and country are too dramatically different things that can come together if you "go with the flow." Start throwing patterns and colors together and life will usually make it happen. P.S. Long socks are very trendy along the New York Fashion Week runway and are very useful from transitioning from cold winter to cold pre-spring. Long socks with peep-toe heels also does great magic to your everyday warm, but more revealing outfit.

Pretty Pearls & Patterns Play

Meet my playful, city-girl self, who just wants to have fun. She can't forget her class altogether, but runs through the streets, nonetheless.

Three major trends, chunks of pearls, plaid dresses, and animal print, converge smoothly together into one outfit that keeps me classy, but fun. The plaid plays down the strapless, soft ruffled dress, a normal clubbing or party-going outfit, to that of a relaxed, everyday dress. With the bulk and multiple patterns happening on top, I kept the bottom simple with a pair of sheer tights and black peep-toe heels. I decided to play with patterns and mix them up. This way, a plaid dress could be worn as a one piece outfit, or a layered top. All clothes could be "recycled" into completely different styles with the slightest touch of accessories or mixing, making unique and interesting outfits. Have fun!

Salute Worthy

Happy Presidents' Day!

Special occasion after special occasion. Here's something I've previously worn that I thought upholds the patriotic spirit. My main color pallete is grey, connecting all the different pieces together with one commonality. The loose boots, wooly top, and beret give off some warm appeal while complemented by smoother textures in the scarf and dress that's peeping out at the bottom. Tucking the scarf into the top outlines the collared scoop-neck and gives my upper body more definition.

P.S. berets make perfect cover-ups on a bad hair day. Just throw your hair up in a bun and cover it up with a nice beret.

Original Skin

Happy Valentine's Day!
After four Valentine's Days together, my boyfriend outdoes himself once again. He's over the roses and on to the Skull Candy--Tokidoki Skull Candy. Somehow he found my favorite LeSports Sac brand on an amazing pair of headphones and gave it to me for Valentine's Day. He's a keeper. I plan to use these as a fashion statement, when my mood permits leaving the calls of crows and seagulls to the deep rap and methodical music on my way to class.
Time to get away from the world and do some hardcore music-listening, relaxing in my own world of sound where I am the DJ and my ipod is my life soundtrack.

Supersize Me

I put together this outfit with my boyfriend's over-sized long-sleeved shirt. I didn't feel like reaching into my own drawer not a few feet away and getting my own, normal-sized shirt. The loose fit gives such a comfortable, relaxing mood, while the neon blue wedged heels send off vibrant flares yells for attention. I like the simplicity of it all. My character: Hip-hop chill

This over-sized look seems to be the trend in New York's Ready-to-Wear Fall Fashion week 2010. Designers wrap models in flowy, loose tops with fitted leggings and heals. I don't normally search for trends and buy things that fit them just right. I use the things I already have and make them fit me. If my style coincides with a current trend, it's usually by coincidence. I feel like I wear what I want and see different takes of it on the runway while still maintaining my originality.

Butter Toast

Today, I want to be tough, but sweet, confident and relaxed.

Keep nice and toasty during this winter season, wrapping yourself in a knitted shawl and belting it into place at the waist or higher. Arm warmers make cute accessories that warm up any look. Fashion news: Designer Adam Adam Lippes played with similar arm warmer accessories during the New York Fall Fashion Week.

My boyfriend/photographer's mother made this shawl for me as an anniversary gift. It's made of one of the most valuable knitting wool she stocks in her privately owned knitting store in Hawaii known as Aloha Yarn. :)  I love most that it shines and is made of different shades of buttery brown.

Serious Business

When I work, I mean business. No joking around. No distractions--not even shiney, sparkly ones. Unless, of course, it's with fashion. To avoid looking too business-like with a full blazer, pair it with glittery skirts and patterned tights. Top off the "Big Wig" look by teasing poufs and waves. Strut your power heels into that interview and demand (ever so subtley and respectfully) that job or promotion or raise or higher grade, whatever the case may be, with confidence and class. This tough world does not demand an iron-hard, unattractive personality, just a confident, respectful one.
